MIDISLAND CULTURE CONNECTION SOCIETY

Empowering Community Through Connection & Amplifying Social Justice Movements

About & Mission

RISEBRIDGE is a non-profit run by action-oriented peers and professionals mandated to provide a safe and culturally-anchored low-barrier space, open 7 days a week, to advance the mental health, resilience and wellbeing of our community while amplifying social justice movements and elevating harm reduction initiatives.

We are a strong, united voice committed to taking action toward equity and allyship; empowering community through connection and community events while focusing on addressing the root causes of social injustice at our local level. We strive to minimize the gaps in our social service offerings by offering peer mentorship, system navigation, and culturally-informed responsive services to prevent individual crises to our trauma-affected community members.

Our weekly programs include drop-in spaces, workshops, and empowerment opportunities for pre/post natal, youth, elders, parenting, men/women, and LGBTQIA2S+. Our services consist of resource connection, mental-health check-ins, elder support, restorative justice and afrocentric healing circles, 16 step and SMRT recovery programs, literacy support, hair/art workshops, and more. We are proud to be hosting monthly community events including art in the park, sexual education workshops, gardening programs, sports games, and multicultural concerts/festivals to aid in building bridges and adding vibrancy to our community.

BLACK LIVES MATTER EVERY CHILD MATTERS

Land Acknowledgement

The Rise Bridge Project acknowledges that we are guests on the unceded and ancestral territories of the Snuneymuxw, Stz’uminus, Snaw'naw'as, and Kwakwaka’wakw first nations, allowing us to connect with communities in BC’s Interior, Lower Mainland, Central & Northern Vancouver Island. We are grateful for their care and wisdom of this land. The Rise Bridge Project is committed to working towards reconciliation and the ongoing process of decolonization as we continue our work in the community.

Intersectional Perspective

We operate from a feminist perspective, offering client centered, not for profit, peer-led programming that is committed to remaining low barrier, safe and welcoming for all races, religions, authenticities and sexualities, LGBTQ+, while actively participating in current social justice events.

To take direct action, you may call your provincial leadership to fulfill the commitments they have made to enhance the lives, and protect the rights, of groups such as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, individuals with neurodiversity, those with concurrent disorders, those experiencing economic marginalization, or those involved in the opioid epidemic. Reviewing the NDP's current commitments gives a good basis by which to inform an email or letter to voice concern.

RISEBRIDGE Picnic in the park on July 25th, after the Anti-Racism car rally was a huge success! We connected with the community and created art for our new space. Thank you all for your support!
